Prayer Room

1. The Prayer (Pooja room) should be preferably in the east, north or north-east corner of the house. The prayer room can built in the north-west corner for the people who desire to do meditation. The Pooja room can be planned near the kitchen also. The Pooja room should never be inside any of the bedrooms. The Idols of the Gods should be kept in the north-east portion of the Pooja room.

1. The faces of god should not be covered with anything including garlands and flowers.

2. If a lamp is placed in the Pooja room, it should always be switched on only while doing Pooja or prayers.

3. The materials and things related to Pooja room only should be kept in the room.

4. One should never use Pooja room for any other purpose like store.

5. Any item like food items, consumable like cosmetics, soaps, etc. should not be kept in the Pooja room. Pooja room should always be above the ground level and never in the basement.

6. Pooja rooms should not be built below stair cases or its landings.

7. Ensure that any toilet or bath room is not adjoining the Pooja room, and not even above or below the prayer room.

8. Avoid keeping the heavy and higher than 6 inches of height of Idols of gods made of metals.

9. In the Pooja room, however light weight figures and pictures can be placed instead.

10. The doors of the prayer room should not close or open automatically. A spring or door-closer should not be fixed on this door.

11. Idols should not be kept facing each other.

12. Broken idols and torn pictures should not be kept in the prayer room.

13. An almirahs or show-case can be placed in the southern or western wall, but it should be lower than idols.

14. Keep the Pooja room absolutely clean.

15. If you plan to have your prayer room or a prayer almirahs in the kitchen, have your deity in the west wall of the kitchen, facing east.

16. Never have the prayer area in the bedroom.
