Jupiter and Its Gemstone, Yellow Sapphire

1. Jupiter is masculine, disciplined, cooperative, and priestly. Commonly known as the teacher of the gods, it is a giant, self-illuminating planet radiating (like a teacher) more energy than it receives. Jupiter is shown riding a white elephant, the largest mammal living on earth. In one band be bolds a scroll of sacred knowledge, in another band a disc of Vishnu to cut through illusions.

2. Jupiter rules the region between the waist and the thighs and influences the bodily elements of fat and mucous.

3. Jupiter is a sattvik and benefic planet, significator of luck and fortune, and he rules religion, philosophy, spirituality, wealth, and progeny. If favorable, this planet gives name, fame, success, honor, wealth, progeny and good relationship with progeny, and it brings benefits to whatever planets or house it is associated with.

4. The color of Jupiter is yellow. Thursday is his day, north-east is his direction.

THE YELLOW SAPPHIRE

1. The yellow sapphire is known as pushparaga in Sanskrit and pukhraj in Hindi. A gem of the corundum family , yellow sapphire is a twin of ruby and blue sapphire. It is found in yellow, golden, and orange colors, as well as in a colorless variety known as white sapphire. The best gem is said to be of lemon-yellow color.

2. For gaining the favor of the planet Jupiter, scriptures recommend that one select a pukhraj that is transparent, even smooth, yellow like the color of the Cascaria ovate flower, and with a tenuous luster that sparkles.

WHAT ARE THE QUALITIES OF A GOOD YELLOW SAPPHIRE ?

1. Heaviness or high specific gravity that can be felt when placed on the palm

2. Rich velvety luster that can be seen with the naked eye

3. Transparency, which makes it clean and pure

4. Evenness in surface, without any variation in thickness

5. Uniformity of color, without any layers

6. Solidity, hardness

7. Self- luminous quality: it should emit light all over its surface

FLAWS OF A YELLOW SAPPHIRE
  1. Dullness-harmful for health

  2. Crack inside the gem-creates fear of thieves

  3. Milk appearance inside-harmful for progeny

  4. Flimsy inside the substance of the gem-brings injuries

  5. Dents or pits-bring bad luck and poverty

  6. Visible stains or black sports-gives sorrow

  7. Asymmetrical shape-brings bad luck

  8. A hole, slit, or cavity inside the gem-brings poverty and bad luck

  9. Fibers in the texture-create problems in the family

HOW TO IDENTIFY REAL YELLOW SAPPHIRE - पुखराज रत्न RING ?

1. When placed on a white cloth and exposed to sunlight, it gives yellow hue to the spot where the light is reflected.

2. If kept in milk for twenty-four hours it does not change color.

3. It cures poisonous insect bites immediately if rubbed on the afflicted area.

4. All other gems of the same color and appearance have lower specific gravity, are less hard, and have a different refractive index than the yellow sapphire.

5. It increases in brilliance when rubbed on a touchstone.

HOW TO WEAR A YELLOW SAPPHIRE ?

1. A yellow sapphire should be bought on a Thursday, in an ascending cycle of the moon and when Pushya Nakshatra is present. If the nakshatra is not Pushya, then Punarvasu, Vishakha, or Purva Bhadrapad are also auspicious for buying a yellow day, between sunrise and 11:00 A.M.

2. The weight of the gem should not be less than three rattikas. The ring should be set in gold and polished and finished the same day as mentioned above. One should not wear a pukhraj (yellow sapphire) of six, eleven, or fifteen rattikas. A pukhraj of five, seven, eight, ten, twelve, or fourteen rattikas is considered auspicious.

3. The best time to wear a pukhraj ring is in the early morning. Before wearing the for the first time it should be immersed in cow’s milk for a few minutes and then it should be washed in rainwater, spring water, or water kept in a cooper pot over night. After it has been washed, the ring should be placed on a yellow cloth upon which a Jupiter Yantra has been drawn with roli and a yantra (or idol of Jupiter in gold) engraved on a silver plate should be placed on the same cloth.

4. One should offer flowers and incense to the engraved yantra and to the stone that has been set in the ring and then recite the mantra of Jupiter:
